To kick off the Grand Opening here at Wrought Iron Lodge, we’re paying homage to some of the earliest influences on our artwork. Our fine details and resourcefulness in using materials crafted from the earth are reminiscent of the ways of the Native American. From the Delaware to the Sioux, the true American Native is an integral part of American history.
A Welcoming People
Most of us claim to be “natives” of this great land because we were born here, and rightfully so. But anthropologically speaking, only a few of us are Native Americans. When the Europeans landed on American shores, it was the true natives that welcomed them, fed them, and helped them care for their families. Not only that, they taught them their ways of farming, and introduced them to wild game hunting - American style.
Columbus called them “Indians” because he thought he had sailed around the world and arrived in India. The name stuck, with the later adjustment to “American Indian.” Part of their enduring contribution to modern society was their sacred connection to nature, earth, and its abundance – never claiming ownership and never taking more than was needed. It was, and is, about living in harmony, preserving, loving, respecting, and giving back to The Land Of Our Birth.
Lighting Inspired By The Native American Culture
This week we are celebrating this heritage by figuratively bending iron into shapes that help us honor and preserve the memory of the early American Indian.
THIS WEEK ONLY we’re featuring some “take home” pieces of American history with discounts on several distinctive lighting pieces that were inspired by history. Our skilled blacksmiths have picked up some enduring strands of the thread that Native Americans have woven into the formation of our country, and artfully told their story - a story told with material that is as beautiful and enduring as the people themselves.
